Eric M. Jenkins was born into a family of tastemakers, with deep roots in fashion history dating back to the 1800s. His paternal grandmother, a trailblazer in Pittsburgh's fashion scene, instilled in Eric a passion for high-quality tailoring. Surrounded by his father's impeccable style, Eric’s love for fashion grew, leading him to explore art and craftsmanship from a young age.
Eric’s entrepreneurial spirit began early, polishing shoes at age four. His interest in classic styles led him to New York Fashion Week as a teen, and later, working for renowned brands like Cole Haan, Barney’s New York, and Louis Vuitton. Eric studied at Fisk University, where his passion for fashion grew as he produced and styled fashion shows while touring with the Grammy-winning Fisk Jubilee Singers. His dream to attend law school shifted after a vision led him to create a luxury bow tie collection.
In 2010, Eric launched The Art of EMJ with a debut collection at the Nicole Gallery in Chicago. The collection included the first self-tied leather bow tie, making waves in fashion when it was showcased at New York Fashion Week in 2011. The Art of EMJ has continued to innovate, partnering with Nolcha Fashion Week to release collections and collaborating with artist Scott Forrest on 3-D bow ties.
The Art of EMJ remains dedicated to craftsmanship, offering self-tied leather bow ties with unique adjustments, blending tradition with modern design. In 2024, Eric introduced The Trailer, a luxury duffle bag, during the Aspen Wine Festival, receiving rave reviews and continuing the brand’s legacy of excellence.
